Germany Ideology

On page 15 Marx says that "Life is not determined by consciousness, but consciousness by life." Rather than only being able to abide by one of these two extremes, could there be a possibility that life could be a mixture of both interpretations?

In general, Marx seems to say that Communism is the true fulfillment self consciousness and creation of history. Why would Marx believe so strongly in the theory of living even though he can't prove it succeeds in reality? Would Marx change his views of communism if he learned about the failure of communist Soviet Union?

  1. To answer your second question, I believe Marx is so set on his communist ways because he does think that this is what the people need to do not only because he thinks this is the better route but because he hates the Hegelian philosophy so much. With that being said, it is like any other presidential candidate you see on TV today where they preach their beliefs, that's all Marx was doing because for others to believe in Communism he needed to be persuasive enough to have it catch on. However, I do believe if he had seen the failed communist Soviet Union he might change it ways but I don't think it would be likely. I think he would more look to improve on Communism rather than change views upon it.
